JOIN THE CLUB!!!!!!! Welcome to the biggest fun club of Avril Lavigne!

Avril Lavigne, known for her pairing of frilly dresses and combat boots, will bring her style to the juniors department at Kohl's department stores.

The edgy, pop-rock star's clothing line "Abbey Dawn" was named after her childhood nickname.

"I actually am the designer," she told Newsweek for editions on newsstands Monday. "I try everything on and approve it all."

She joined a long line of celeb-turned-designers, including Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Simpson.

Lavigne kicked off her 2008 world tour in Victoria, B.C., Canada, earlier this month.

She made her first album at 17, her third when she was 23. In between were the ages of 18-22, the prime years of identity crisis (and, significantly, the time when schizophrenia strikes). She's come through that passage a married woman and still earthbound star.

So then who is Avril Lavigne?

Her Best Damned Tour, which stopped at GM Place on Friday night, suggests a few clues. She started as though she meant business with "Girlfriend," surrounded by four dancers and a five-piece band, on a stage that lit up in pink with images of skulls and crossbones. The singers and dancers added a visual dimension to the show but not much else. If the songs on the new album are mechanical, then in concert they have more character, even if the band is anonymous.

The last time I saw Lavigne, she had bludgeoned shapeless her first single "Complicated." Now she has put back its sharp edges and wrestled back its drama. The irony of Let's Go, Lavigne's first LP, is that she seems older than the Lavigne of Best Damn Thing. If the realizations of "Complicated" are compared to the brazen declaration of "Girlfriend," what a strange reversal. She actually sounds younger on the new LP. That should be impossible and, beneath the surface, it is. In the song "Innocence," she regrets the loss of just that. I wonder if she's ever heard the Bob Dylan song "My Bad Pages."
Avril Lavigne started as if she meant business, kicking off her GM Place show Friday night with 'Girlfriend.'

I wonder, too, if the young audience of 11,000 - there were lots of girls with their mothers - related to the experiences that shaped "Keep Holding On." These are the thoughts of someone who has been thrown into adulthood, perhaps before she was ready. Now, she's sharing that discovery with her fans. As long as she continues to do that, they'll grow with her.

Boys Like Girls, who opened, assumed a classic look - skinny ties on skinny frames - and went about making the crowd theirs. With a lot of energy, a few harmonies and a well-placed ballad, they were earnest and ultimately, won approval.

Despite having sold more than 30 million albums around the world by the age of 23, Avril Lavigne still seems to be unsure of her success.

She's had nearly a dozen top 10 hits and she sold in the range of 12,000 tickets to her Friday night show at GM Place, but the pop punk princess was initially uneasy on the stage, looking like perhaps she didn't really believe in what she was doing up there.

Lavigne's most recent album, The Best Damn Thing, received only lukewarm reviews from the critics who bothered to listen to it. And she is regularly the target of hateful jabs from mean-spirited celeblogger Perez Hilton.

But you'd think that the thousands of screaming fans in front of her Friday night would have boosted her confidence. They - the hardcore fans who were mostly young girls - frantically swirled glow sticks, screamed "We love you Avril," and proudly donned $60 pink and black Avril tee-shirts and hoodies to show their dedication.

Avril Lavigne played Friday in Vancouver. But when the star of the night rose out of the stage at 8:30 p.m. to open the not-quite-sold-out show with her latest hit, Girlfriend - the one for which she was accused of plagiarism - she looked like she was awkwardly going through the motions of the performance. She sounded terribly off-key and her voice was weak as she half-heartedly marched around the stage with a superficial-looking smile plastered across her face.

Employing skull and crossbones as her signature emblem and wearing chains and patches, it's clear that Avril is holding tight to her original teenaged aspirations of being a rebel punk. But when said skull and crossbones are framed by a pink heart and the patches look like they've been attacked by a bedazzle-happy crafter, all punk credibility quickly flies out the window.

And when it comes to the music, Avril is unquestionably at her best on the belt-'em out ballads, rather than on the pop rock tunes.

The pride of Napanee, Ontario hit her stride and appeared most comfortable Friday when it came time for her five-song acoustic set. She played a pink piano for When You're Gone, a surprisingly stirring ballad about missing a lover. Her voice was clear and strong and she finally looked comfortable and confident.

She played acoustic guitar along with two of her band members for Don't Tell Me, one of the hits of 2004's Under My Skin. And she gave perhaps her best performance of the night when she did an acoustic version of one of her early rock numbers, Losing Grip.

Things slipped back to disappointing though when she got behind a drum kit - it was pink, of course - for Runaway and then a quick rendition of the 1982 hit Mickey, for which she asked the audience to sing along. Nobody seemed to recognize the song.

She rapped briefly for I Don't Have to Try, which again seemed unnatural and perhaps forced by some image consultant. And she returned to Girlfriend, but as a rap remix, for her encore, which did not play up her strengths.

Avril finished off the show after 75 minutes with her 2002 hit Sk8er Boi, during which she again sounded off-key and a bit like she wanted to sprint to the finish line.

There's no question Avril can sing when the song suits her. But perhaps it's time for her to shed her small-town punk aspirations and embrace her inner ballad diva. Maybe then she'd look more comfortable in her own skin.

Avril Lavigne

"It's rock glam: fun, colorful, young and edgy," Avril Lavigne says of her new clothing line in the latest of Us Weekly.

Abbey Dawn, named after the nickname her dad calls her, will debut at Kohl's stores nationwide in July.

The threads (ranging from $24 to $48) mimic the "Complicated" singer's signature skater-girl-chic style and include hoodies, jeans and tees in bright colors and skull and zebra patterns.

"Everything is fit to be sexy and flattering," the 23-year-old tells Us.

Lavigne, who had a hand in everything from choosing fabrics to collaborating on designs, plans to wear the line during her Best Damn Tour, which launches this month.

Lavigne's hubby Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 approves.

It's been rumored for quite some time now that Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne is pregnant with husband Deryck Whibley's baby.

But the 23-year-old starlet says the rumors are false, insisting she isn't knocked up - yet.

Lavigne and Whibley went on baby shopping spree where they were seen browsing boutiques like Petit Tresor, Kitson for Kids and Lisa Kline Kids.

The happy couple reportedly purchased a cheetah diaper bag, a pacifier holder and baby AC/DC T-shirts. Sounds like a little Avril to us!

But if you think Avril is going to confirm a potential pregnancy, think again.

The edgy singer has slammed the baby reports, claiming that the rumors are absolutely fake.

"Remember in high school when people would start fake rumours about you? Well, this isn't high school - it's like the entire world," she says.

Το δικαστήριο αποφάσισε ότι το hit της "Girlfriend" δεν έχει πάρει sample από το παλιό "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" των Rubinoos.

Η Avril είχε κατηγορηθεί ότι έκλεψε sample από το track της μπάντας από τα 70's, The Rubinoos.
